Visit Valletta

Valletta, Malta’s capital city, is a must-see when visiting Malta. Built by the Knights of St. John, Valletta is a genuine open-air museum and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Don’t miss St. John’s Co-Cathedral, a magnificent example of Baroque architecture also containing Caravaggio’s famous painting The Beheading of St John the Baptist.

Upper Barrakka Gardens is another must-see, with its breathtaking views over the Grand Harbour.

Visit the Grandmaster’s Place and National War Museum in Fort St. Elmo to learn more about Malta’s rich history, the latter especially focusing on the island’s role during World War II.

Explore Mdina

Also known as the Silent City, Mdina was the island’s capital until the Medieval period and a fascinating place with palazzi, chapels and narrow streets enclosed within fortified walls. Mdina’s skyline is dominated by the stunning St. Paul’s Cathedral, richly adorned in a Baroque style. Let your curiosity be your guide and walk through the doors of hidden treasures such as the Chapel of St. Roque and Palazzo Falson.

Don’t miss the great panoramic views over the northern side of Malta from the city walls at the back of the ancient city.

Visit the Megalithic Temples

After exploring the ancient towns and cities of Malta, go even further back in time, to the time of the island’s first inhabitants. This mysterious civilisation left a fascinating heritage behind: megalithic temples scattered across the Maltese archipelago. Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra temples (Malta) as well as the Ġgantija Temples (Gozo), are among the most interesting ones.

On sunny days, there’s nothing like enjoying the beaches’ natural beauty, with the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Head to Golden Bay, Għajn Tuffieħa or Mellieħa Bay. Enjoy the winter sun, sit on the sand or the rocks to watch the waves or have a hot drink at a seafront coffee shop or restaurant while taking in the sea views.

Hikes are a great activity to enjoy during the winter months in Malta. Explore Malta’s natural beauty, rugged coastline and hidden coves. There are many coastal trails to enjoy, like the Majjistral Nature and History Park and Dingli Cliffs, both offering panoramic views.
